New York's severence tax proposal was for 5% of net production.  Alaska has a 17% tax and other states' range from 5% to 15%.  NY needs to increase the tax, carefully monitor the production and collect every penny we are due.  The NY tax should also be dedicated to increasing the DEC budget and oversight staff to protect our water and other natural resources. <br /><br />I also like the suggestion to increase our conservation efforts and delay the very problematic gas production until it is proven safe and we have no other energy options.<br /><br />I wish all our public officials had such a progressive view on this issue.");document.write("      </p>");
