Maybe you are not aware that Delhi CSD does not even have a PTA and FODA (Friends of Delaware Academy) disintegrated do to lack of parent interest and volunteers, not to mention the fact that Superintendent and Principal coffee hours were stopped due to no parents or community members ever bothering to show up. <br />So before you go off easily blaming the teachers, why don't you put some blame where it belongs. Maybe breaking and entering,  vandalism, smoking and drinking on school grounds are  'harmless' pranks to you. Why are people so apt to call those things 'harmless' and condone such behavior while putting the responsibilty squarly on the backs of the administration and teachers. (see the term teachers not substitute parents, disciplinarians, or babysitters)Why should the Delhi staff have to spend there mornings focused on all the problems these kids caused and the poor custodial staff having to clean up after these little brats. On another note, the entire union would not make an issue out of these few small incidents. What no confidence means is just that. The leadership in the school is horrible under the current Superintendent. Read his own quotes, 'The camp out was a mistake on our part, no doubt about it,' Mulholland said. 'It was supposed to be an exercise in trust, but it was a bad idea.' There was also a break-in at the school a few weeks ago, according to the superintendent. He said four boys broke in through doors that should have been repaired years ago. Bad ideas, doors that should have been fixed years ago. Whats the bet that is still not done. If you read the entire article these were 'last straws.' These types of things have been going on for years now with no action taken. I'm proud of the teachers for saying enough is enough. It's time we get someone in the school that actually lives in our community, I would settle for the general area, and someone who is not just there to sign papers and wait for the retirement checks to roll in. Heck, maybe even someone who when they grant permission for a bunch of teenages to camp out on school grounds with no chaperones, might just go up and check in once in a while (oh thats right he couldn't he lives out of the area.) That fixes broken doors on the school that have broken for years, maybe even someone that stands up for his teachers and staff when the students write degrading things about them insead of commenting it was clever. In this writers opinion it's time to go retire up north Mr. Mulholland.");document.write("      </p>");

Hughes did not just happen to stop by. He was in the school for almost an hour, watching kids from inside the building before he called the police. If he really cared about the safety of the students, why didn't he come out, talk to the kids, check their tents, cars, etc? Instead he waited and then came out accusing kids of drinking and smoking pot. Several kids offered to take breathalizers- but were told it wasn't necessary.<br />One student did take a breathalizer- it was 0.00.<br />If Hughes thought students were under the influence, why didn't he call parents to come pick up their kids? The kids that played a joke on there underclass men by using toothpaste and syrup did not do this to the teachers. When they realized how upset everyone was they turned themselves in and cleaned the mess up plus put in additional hours. It was not focused at the Teachers. The campout again was not aimed at the Teacher and second of all Mr. Hughes has lied on numerous occassion the camp out being his lastest. He accussed students of drinking but when students asked if they could take a breatherlizer or blood test Mr. Hughes refused them stating he did not need proof. Even though the students wanted to clear their names. The rumor that the Delhi School district has to know is that Mr. Hughes is trying to get the Superintendents job that Mr. Mulholland currently holds with the school board backing Mr. Hughes. If this happens we as a community will be sorry with our children paying the price because Mr. Hughes holds grudges and takes it out on our children, if anyone tries to go against him. As the story states, 2 students were tested for drugs and alcohol - both came back ZERO. The vandalism is certainly fairly tame (and the punishment fit the seriousness of the crime). The attitude of the teachers in our Delhi schools is in serious need of change. These people should go teach in New York City or anywhere on Long Island, then come back here and complain! They earn more money than the rest of the average wage earner in Delaware County, have better benefits, have a student body that is made up of groups that really care about each other, parents that are so involved that elsewhere they would be considered 'hover-parents'; they deal with vandals that consider toothepaste & maple syrup the worst tools they want to use... I could go on. These teachers are so full of themselves that I can't even sign my real name because I know this letter would affect how they treat my student in their class.
