If you look at a map of upstate New York you will note that the only way to remove one of those districts is to go north.  Most likely the present 23rd Congressional District will be divided in two.  The western side of the North Country will be added to Congressman Maffi's district and the eastern side added to Congressman Murphy's district.  That leaves the winner of the special election in the 23rd district with two options.  In 2012 or 2014 you give up your seat and just walk away, you primary a fellow Democrat if a Democrat should win or you wage a general election contest against one of these incumbent Congressman.  The other fact to remember is that in both the Maffi district and the Murphy district the population base is not the North Country.  It lies further to the south in both districts.  In short, that means the North Country will not have its own Congressperson representing them.  I do not envy those who are thinking of running in this special election facing the fact that when redistricting is completed under the new census numbers they will most likely be out of a job.  I would suggest that those thinking of making this race give careful thought to how this will all play out in the long run.");document.write("      </p>");
