I am going to go out on a limb and say that by you calling me 'naive' puts you in the 'snap judgment' business. Sorry it came to that.

Frankly... I liked Plattsburgh and I enjoyed the nice people I met and interacted with and when traveling by bike there are far more details one can observe and analyze in comparison to driving etc. I don't think anyone who is familiar with both Burlington, VT and Plattsburgh can deny the mentality shift when it comes to environmental stewardship. If my assessment was miscalculated or incorrect... please make me aware.

Now... I will say that it is difficult to pass judgment without actually spending considerable time in a community. However my mission is to ride through the communities within my path, gather information and report them personally and honestly in my blog. I would not consider my evaluation passing to be passing judgment by any means.

If you can provide me prime examples as to what I should have found in the area please by all means do advise.

Best of luck to you.

- Nathan A. First thing you notice is the number of abandoned homes, trailers and even shopping centres. The is one of these abandoned shopping centes in Ogdensburg, and another one in Malone. But what really sets apart Ontario and New York are mobile homes and pretty unsightly ones at that. Mobile homes are few and far between in Ontario. The other major thing is obesity, and I mean severe obesity. sure we have 'fat' people here in Ottawa, but it is so prevalent in the North Country.");document.write("
");

Yes, upstate NY has its problems and more than its share of poverty, but there are plenty of rough-looking neighborhoods in Burlington if you care to look beyond Church Street. A community's commitment to the environment can't be assessed by a count of Prius drivers and latte shops.");document.write("
");
