The 30,000 cigarettes was a little excessive in anyones eyes, and they were probably for a resale market, which I can understand them getting a ticket for possession. But for someone buying them for their personal use, I suggest that the state needs to back off. If you remember, New York State tried the same type of tactics several years ago with people going to New Jersey to buy clothing, because N.J. has no sales tax on them. The N.Y. State was taking license plate numbers and then going to peoples' homes and trying to have them pay a sales tax on their purchase. The N.Y.S. Police should be more concerned about fighting real crime in our area, instead of harrassing people over petty stuff. I know the people say it's an increase to offset lawsuits for the big tobacco companies. Then why say it's a tax? Regardless what they call it, the consumer has to dig deeper to pay for something that may not have been their fault.
