This needs to be looked into deeper in order to resolve this. Part of the problem here is that current leaders are not familiar with these treaties. Arming the custom agents is for protection against all enemies foreign and domestic. The Natives need to see this picture as a whole and they need to understand that with the world events happening today, this is part of the anti-terrorism/homeland security measure. It isn't about 'Whites against Natives.' America is being threatened at their borders and Al Qaeda will do whatever it takes to cross. They don't see us as Native or Canadian or American, they see us as an enemy. Terrorism is real and having served in the miilitary for the past 20+ years, this is something we should not dismiss. Is there that much hatred between the Canadian government and Natives for the Natives to think there will be violence? Or is it that the Natives are threatened because this negatively affects their smuggling market? Everyone needs to look at the BIG picture and do the right thing for the community and country as a whole, not for personal gain.
