My spouse, who is not from the DFW area, and I were talking about moving as our family has grown. I brought up the idea of moving down to Cleburne. At first, she laughed at me thinking I was joking. When she saw I was serious, she outlined a list of reason why the answer was a resounding no. I thought about her reasons and looked at it from a different perspective. After that, i completely agree with her. Though not all are relevent, some are. Here are some reasons for the poor perception of Cleburne:

1. It is not an easy place to get into/out of. Traveling on 174, especially through Burleson, is brutal. This should be the fast way to get into and out of Fort Worth but that is no longer the case. Traveling out 67 to I-35W is inconvienent. There needs to be something done to lessen the 'suburban commute' into Fort Worth.

2. Cleburne is an eyesore. It is absolutely disheartening driving through the town and seeing the decay. This town, for whatever reason, continues to let infastructure rot in full view and it is horrible. Whether it be the old hospital, that center called a 'mall', or downtown, it's just sad.

3. In part of number 2, there is no real entertainment. Yes, I know the recent election of alcohol sales will help in time but I fear it will turn into a hodgepodge of generic unimaginitive 'sports bars'. The only place worth truly going to is the Caddo Street Grill. My hope is the city leaders can look at a place like Grapevine and see how to turn their existing downtown scene into something fun for not only families but the young adult crowd in their 20's.

4. The lack of a college or university of it's own. I heard somewhere that Cleburne is the largest Texas town without any kind of real college. That is just sad. Having a Hill college branch that I think is exclusively a commuter college is even sadder.

It appears the the town either lives in the past or has a collective talent drain. There are very few people I went to school with who reside there. The collective reasons why they left are very similar to what I listed. Cleburne needs fresh ideas and a local government that will encourage growth, ideas, and progress. Until then, it will continue to look like a third rate stripmall dominated by dollar stores.");document.write("
");
